We’re always pumping out new features here at AstroPrint HQ, but we’re especially excited about this one! It’s been highly requested and now it’s ready to roll.
As an AstroPrint user, you can now share 3D models through Facebook, Twitter, or a special link. People that you share a model with can view it, share it, print it, or have it printed through a printing service.
Here’s how it works:
1) Find a sharable 3D model in your AstroPrint File Manager. Sharable 3D models are ones that you have uploaded. If you imported the model from a marketplace (such as WaterTight, 3DaGoGo, or MyMiniFactory) you will not be able to share the model. (This is to protect the original designer.) Click “Share Design.”
2) Choose the security level you wish for you design. All designs are set to Private by default!
a) Public – Let’s you share via FaceBook, Twitter, or a link back to the design page. In addition, this will be searchable by sites like Google. This is great for original designs that you wish to share on blogs, social media, forums, etc.
b) Anybody with the Link – This will not be searchable by Google. The only way to find this design is by the design’s link. This is best for 3D designs that you wish to let a select person (or several people) see your design.
c) Private – Your model is fully secure in your account as yours only. It will not be seen by anyone else, nor will it be searchable by search engines.
And that’s it! It’s that simple. 🙂
