If you don’t have the time to crawl over steep learning curves prevalent in popular CAD software like SolidWorks, Blender etc., you should find the Leopoly APP to be quite handy – especially in importing and modifying your STL files directly inside your AstroPrint cloud account.

The Interface

While the interface is fairly straightforward, it will take some experimentation to discover Leopoly’s capabilities – partly because, Leopoly has an incredible plethora of tools and possibilities at your disposal.

The fastest way to learn the Leopoly APP is to simply import your STL into Leopoly and start using the tools. It’s the difference between reading a book about swimming and getting in the pool.

The bottom line is that, you are likely going to be pleasantly surprised about how easy it is to create and edit designs using the Leopoly APP.

Built in templates

One of the most useful features of the Leopoly APP is it’s built in templates for 3D Design. Think of these as a blank template or a canvas that enables you to customize them according to your own needs. It’s a bit like digital clay, in that, you can mold these templates into anything you want. Your final design will also be 3D Printable, right out the gate.

How to use Leopoly with AstroPrint

The Leopoly APP is already available on your AstroPrint Dashboard. You can access all of Leopoly’s functionality by accessing this APP directly from your AstroPrint account. Alternatively, you can also IMPORT your existing designs from your AstroPrint account via the FILE MANAGER in your dashboard.

Importing files from AstroPrint to Leopoly

Importing design files (STL’s) from your AstroPrint File Manager to Leopoly is fairly straightforward. Once you have a design you want to import in mind, simply choose OPEN WITH. Then select the Leopoly APP. This will launch the Leopoly APP with your STL file – ready for editing.

Exporting files from Leopoly to Astroprint

Exporting your newly modified (or created) STL is quite straightforward. Within the Leopoly APP, you should see the export button on the top left corner of your screen.

Then, just save the newly modified design on your AstroPrint cloud account.

The Leopoly APP has the potential on being a great utility for making quick modifications to your 3D Designs within your AstroPrint account without requiring any professional training in Computer Aided Design. The best part is that your final designs will be ready to 3D Print and there is no need to fiddle around with technical modeling details as Leopoly is a visually intuitive tool. One thing lacking about Leopoly is the minimal amount of online tutorials on how to use it, but I am optimistic about more tutorials becoming available in the near future.
